Mitämeri - Tales of the Plastic Sea is a crossing from the dry land to the underwater world to swim in the cool water, surrounded by the plastic trash.

Mitämeri is an adventurous fantasy story about the state of the world's oceans and the use of plastic. The work is a comforting look at the prevailing environmental disaster and the uncertainty of the future.

Mitämeri places the beauty of plastic waste into the spotlight, and paradoxically uses visual harmony instead of blame as an effective means. Plastic can be a horribly destructive force, which in this work appears deceptively beautiful.

The performance's strength lies in the visually strong stage images, the imaginative use of the material, and the epicness of the sound world.

Plastic has been chosen as a material for the show because it evokes a wide range of emotions in the audience. Since the beginning the biggest motivator to create the piece has been people's reactions, and what they feel when they watch the show. The show was built around audience feedback, as plastic creates clear associations and stories in people's heads. The show is open to interpretation and does not force directions. The show has as many plots as there are viewers, with each viewer making their own interpretations based on their own experiences. The working group offers a space and a moment and an audiovisual impulse.

Mitämeri is for consumers of culture who are interested in performing arts (burlesque, contemporary circus, dance). The audience profile includes the people who identify a part of the  LGBTQI+ group. One of the special target groups is people who consume adventurous and escapist art, who don't necessarily normally perceive circus as an art form that suits them (LARPers, people who read fantasy literature, people who play computer games, role-players, etc.).. The show is suitable for theater spaces, black boxes and - with slight changes - big tops.

The piece is a 45-minute solo performance-

The underwater world is created with lights, sound, and blue protective plastic sheets. The plastics are different-sized, lightweight, and translucent sheet-like pieces that build a mythical landscape on stage, and they deform as they float attached to the ceiling, rotate like a wave around the Cyr wheel, and move like the sea currents.

"The existence of plastic causes conflicting feelings: It's beautiful, useful and wonderful, and I wouldn't want to give up its use. However, I recognize that I am in a privileged position. In the long run, the excessive use of plastic without sustainable solutions for its recycling will cause increasing problems, and I will not be among the first to suffer."
